Intercede, a provider of identity and access management services, has signed a contract with British Telecom for the supply of the MyID identity and credential management system, in support of the National Health Service National Data Spine.

BT had previously been supplied with Intercede’s MyID software and services indirectly through an Intercede business partner. All new orders will now be placed directly with Intercede.

The National Program for IT in the National Health Service (NHS) is a civilian IT program. As part of its ongoing involvement in this project, Intercede is midway through supplying MyID software licenses to enable the issuance of up to 1.2 million smart cards to healthcare staff throughout the UK.

The NHS is issuing its smart cards using more than 2,000 MyID personalization stations located at hospitals and medical centers. This system is a key component of the Department of Health’s initiative to modernize service delivery in the NHS.

Richard Parris, chairman and CEO of Intercede, said: Intercede is pleased to be recognised by BT as a direct supplier on this demanding project. During the last three years, Intercede has demonstrated to BT that we have both the business and the support infrastructure to participate in this project.
