Huawei has expanded its R&D activities in the UK, as it completed its acquisition of the UK-based Centre for Integrated Photonics (CIP).
Huawei UK communications director Ed Brewster confirmed that they bought CIP from East of England Development Agency (EEDA), without disclosing the monetary details.
CIP was originally owned by a US consortium before being acquired by EEDA in 2003.
Meanwhile, Huawei is looking to double its UK workforce from 500 last year to 1,000 this year.
A total of $10m had been spent, including some amount invested for research activities, besides opening a European design centre for its mobile device business as well as an internal audit centre, which would both be located in the UK.
CIP CEO Peter Wharton said as EEDA looked forward to the bid from Huawei, it also agreed to the same and was looking forward to be a part of the Chinese telecom company’s ‘industry-leading’ R&D capabilities.
