HP has announced a network functions virtualisation (NFV) platform for communication service providers (CSPs).

HP NFV System, pre-integrated with HP Helion OpenStack Carrier Grade, provides an open source cloud platform to help CSPs deploy their networks.

The solution bundle contains HP NFV Starter Kit, which comprises compute nodes, control nodes running virtual infrastructure management (VIM) and physical infrastructure management (PIM) software, and storage nodes. Also included is HP NFV Compute Kit, which consists of server nodes that run virtual network functions (VNF) workloads combined with fast packet processing capabilities.

In addition, the HP NFV Control Kit consists of HP Helion OpenStack Carrier Grade VIM software and PIM software, including HP OneView, HP Intelligent Management Center and HP Central Management Console. This kit is designed for customers running specialised and limited trials with low CAPEX.

Finally, HP NFV Storage Kit is a pre-configured solution that can be integrated with HP NFV Start Kit to boost capacity for storage-intensive applications.

The IT giant also revealed NFV Director 3.0, which provides management and orchestration capabilities to enhance CSPs’ current operations support systems. It also includes analytics capabilities to help use NFV data to enhance real-time decision-making.

"Many telcos and suppliers have done NFV proof-of-concepts and are now ready to move to production. To do that, they need solutions that are open, carrier grade, and easy to deploy," said Saar Gillai, senior vice president and general manager, Network Functions Virtualisation and global lead, Telecommunications, HP.

"HP NFV System provides an integrated, pre-tested, deployment-ready NFV hardware and software platform to get customers up-and-running quickly and confidently."
