Harris Corp. has announced new enhancements to the Nexio family of video servers. Direct file import of both GXF and Avid MediaStream MPEG files are now available, which are expected to create a higher level of efficiency in file-based workflows.
Support and essence compatibility with GXF (SMPTE 360M) and MPEG files allows Nexio to import content from all MediaStream video servers and media archives, as well as from other compliant platforms, including Thomson/Grass Valley.
This capability, coupled with the Nexio server’s ability to accommodate multiple software codecs, streamlines the broadcast workflow by virtually eliminating the cost, latency and quality concerns of file transcoding, said Harris.
According to Harris, Nexio servers further enhance file-based workflow efficiency through a virtual file system mechanism that separates the content from the wrapper. This process stores the information in an effective and uniform manner, and eliminates any transcoding or file-conversion requirements.
Broadcasters can view the content in a variety of wrapper types, and conveniently import and export files from the server system in their selected wrapper type. Nexio customers with large, format-specific archive systems can reportedly work with similar efficiency to enable immediate playback of multiple file formats from their archives.
Nexio servers also handle MXF file exchange, which enables interoperability with Omneon and SeaChange servers, as well as the Panasonic P2 DVCPRO25/50, DVCPRO HD and AVC-Intra and Sony XDCAM and XDCAM HD 35/50 formats.
