Communications and information technology company Harris, has unveiled VIDA Broadband LTE, a new 700 MHz Broadband LTE (Long Term Evolution) network offering for broadband communications for first responders.
VIDA Broadband LTE is part of the VIDA (Voice, Interoperability, Data, Access) network platform. The VIDA network integrates VIDA Broadband LTE with P25 (Project 25) and OpenSky communication systems, which are in use by first responders across North America, the company said.
Harris said that it is teaming with Nokia Siemens Networks to develop VIDA Broadband LTE for public safety communications. VIDA Broadband LTE will be designed to meet the FCC (Federal Communication Commission) cyber security and infrastructure survivability requirements, and will support the technical framework for the FCC’s Emergency Response Interoperability Center (ERIC).
The company said that its new offering will support a range of high-bandwidth applications such as streaming video, advanced situational awareness, and PTT voice-over-broadband features. It will also provide users with priority and Quality of Service (QoS) controls, user authentication and air link encryption, advanced load balancing and Self-Optimising Network Management.
Steve Shanck, president of Public Safety and Professional Communications at Harris, said: "Harris is excited to bring together these two extremely powerful solutions into a single, unique public safety broadband network at 700 MHz.
"Working with global LTE leader Nokia Siemens Networks means that Harris can ensure that first responders will have available the next generation of voice, data and mobile video communications, yet still keep a solid and secure connection to today’s narrowband networks."
