Essentia, the non-clinical services unit of Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, has selected ANS Group for its data centre transformation programme.

The programme is part of a £10m investment that will see the trust achieve its goal of creating a paperless environment.

The departments inside and outside the trust can instantly access all patient records and the production estate will be consolidated into a four-tier, service-aligned platform.

It will support platinum applications that need zero downtime tolerance through to bronze level apps with four hours downtime tolerance.

ANS will use Flexpod technology for the transformation. It is claimed to be the vendors’ largest UK deployment of the latest technologies within the public sector.

FlexPod is a computing, networking, and storage solution developed by Cisco, NetApp and VMware.

Guy’s & St Thomas’ CTO Gary McAllister said: "This transformation will allow us to deliver a completely new model for Essentia’s infrastructure services. This will further underpin our innovative approach and ability to deliver against the demanding uptime requirements for healthcare IT services."

ANS CEO Paul Sweeney said: "We are hugely excited to be delivering and managing what will be our largest Flexpod to date. It will allow Essentia to deliver rapid and agile IT for its customers."

Currently, ANS manages more than 1000 virtual servers for Guy’s & St Thomas’ that will be migrated to the new platform.
