Google has confirmed its plans to extend super-fast fibre broadband service to Austin, Texas, US, following company’s plans revealed in December 2012 for new cities to expand into.

Currently, the company has a limited its roll-out to Kansas City, offering the residents up to one gigabit per second broadband service for $70 per month.

Google Fiber vice-president Milo Medin said the service will be launched by mid-2014 and users will be offered with choice of products including Gigabit Internet or Gigabit Internet in addition to Google Fiber TV service with nearly 200 HD TV channels.

"We’re sure these folks will do amazing things with gigabit access and we feel very privileged to have been welcomed to their community," Medin said.

Google is also working to offer Austin users with a free Internet connection at 5 mbps for 7 years, only if they agree to pay a one-time construction fee.

In addition, free gigabit service will be offered for many public institutions in Austin such as schools, hospitals, community centres.
