An Egyptian HVAC technician has became famous overnight after a glitch in the Google ranking made him the most searched person in the country.
When users searched ‘Google’, the results showed the page of Saber El-Toony.
When users from Egypt typed the keyword ‘Google’ into the search engine using different devices they got the same result, despite having no keyword similar to the search.
Egypt-based digital marketer Eyad Nour contacted Saber El-Toony to understand the secret of landing on top of the search result and getting more than four million views on his Google Plus page.
Surprisingly he told Saber El-Toony that he did not do anything to promote his page.
According to the digital market expert, the only explanation to justify the result is the Google Plus page, where El-Toony entered his Twitter handle "ssabereltony" into the website field.
Nour said: "If that turns out to be the explanation for his number-one ranking it suggests "all you have to do to outrank Google itself is to change the website URL in your Google Plus profile."
BBC cited Koozai Digital Marketing Manager Oliver Ewbank as saying: "Google Plus profiles tend to rank well in search results, but never on this scale.
"The main link between this listing and the keyword Google is the fact that Mr El-Toony entered a Google Search for his Twitter handle in the website URL field. This Google URL field seems to have caused the search engine to think the profile is a relevant search result.
Search engine ranking has become an integral part of businesses as it is directly linked to viewership and sales, and through search engine optimisation businesses are trying to get higher profile on search engine lists.
