Global Switch has suffered its second power outage on the 10th floor of its GS2 data centre in the UK.
The power outage, which occurred just one week after a previous outage took place at the same site, arose yet again from unknown reasons.
Last week’s outage closed off the whole tenth floor of the GS2 site and led to a disruption in services for EX Networks’ customers.
The second outage occurred at the same location of the site, leaving many customers frustrated. Matthew Skipsey, Technical Director at M12 shared his frustration in a tweet where he revealed thoughts to move out of the data centre based on the continuous outages.
Although the latest outage is only the second this year, In June 2016 GS2 went down for a short time due to a high voltage fault, which lasted over 200 milliseconds took over the facility in September 2016.

In an update, EX Networks said: “Power has remained stable; we are still waiting for official word from Global Switch on the issue. Further updates to follow.”
The data centre provider continues to expand and distribute its services around the world. The latest outage may be a disruption in its plans to meet the Uptime Institute’s Tier 3 reliability specifications already laid out for the GS2 site.
Telecoms Company, M12Solutions said: “We are currently aware of a power outage affecting the Global Switch 2 data centre. We deliver some of our hosted voice system solutions from this data centre.
“This follows on from last weeks’ issue. We had been actively working on a migration plan to avoid any repeated attempts, however this had not completed in time. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
“As this is the third such power failure affecting both A+B power feeds in 12 months at Global Switch 2, we shall urgently investigate whether to switch our primary vDC to Virtus Enfield Secondary and retain Global Switch 2 as the resilient offering. We have not been aware of similar power issues affecting Virtus in the same period.”
