Fujitsu said that it has been selected by NTT DOCOMO as a vendor for developing a mobile data communications terminal based on Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology, a next-generation mobile communications standard.
In addition to being LTE-compliant, it is expected that the mobile terminal will utilise HSPA/W-CDMA (3G) and GSM/GPRS (2G) networks. The mobile terminal will also support the ExpressCard standard, the latest in PC card interfaces, making it possible for the mobile terminal to be installed in a variety of products, such as notebook PCs and netbooks, for high-speed communications in mobile environments, the company said.
By speedily furnishing a mobile terminal for NTT DOCOMO’s planned LTE service, Fujitsu will contribute to the expansion of wireless broadband in the future 4G mobile communications market, the company claims.
Fujitsu plans to exhibit a concept design of its LTE mobile data communications terminal during the ITU Telecom World 2009 international exhibition in Geneva, Switzerland, from October 5-9, 2009.
