Fiber-based offerings are increasingly available across 40 countries and now account for over 25% of all broadband packages, as per an analysis of Fixed Broadband Tariffs from the Strategy Analytics Fixed Broadband Price Benchmarking Service, "The Cost of Fiber-Based Broadband."
A key finding from the analysis is that fixed broadband delivers higher speeds at significantly lower costs than traditional xDSL counterparts.
Report author Josie Sephton said while the findings paint a fast evolving and very positive picture for fiber, widespread availability within each country generally remains limited and will be for some time to come.
"Moreover, Strategy Analytics has noted that a few carriers have introduced usage caps on fiber-based services," Sephton said.
"This is somewhat unexpected, at least for now. Although the caps seem fairly generous so far, capping service use is an area to watch out for in the future."
