Facebook is reportedly testing an internal search engine for its mobile app, which will enable users to identify and post links in a status update without the need to Google.

Some users of Apple’s iOS mobile system in the US can now click on an ‘add a link’ option next to buttons for adding a location or photo.

Facebook has indexed over one trillion posts as part of its plans to allow users to identify status updates that were shared with them.

Once the feature is available, users are not required to Google search or browse via the News Feed to identify a particular link for sharing.

Users will find it easier to share news and other data on their News Feeds, creating additional space for Facebook adds.

The add a link option will also give structured information on a user’s choice over news and publishers.

A Facebook spokesperson said: "We’re piloting a new way to add a link that’s been shared on Facebook to your posts and comments."

More than 70% of the company’s total advertising revenue currently comes from mobile and Facebook has 25% share on referral traffic.
