Ericsson has signed a multi-year managed services agreement with Telefonica O2 UK to provide field maintenance and other services to its 2G and 3G networks.

Under the agreement, the Stockholm-based network equipment vendor will provide field maintenance services for radio and switch sites, spare parts management logistics support as well as optimisation and drive services and facilities engineering services for Telefonica O2 UK.

The two companies already have a multi-year agreement under which Ericsson provides the mobile core network technology to Telefonica O2 UK. Ericsson said that the new agreement marks the first time that it will undertake day-to-day operations for Telefonica O2 UK.

Mats Granryd, managing director of Ericsson UK, said: We view this as an excellent step in the development of a long-term strategic partnership with Telefonica O2 UK and we are extremely honored to have been chosen by Telefonica O2 UK as its managed services partner.

Last week, Ericsson has entered into a seven-year deal valued between $4.5 billion and $5 billion with Sprint. As part of the agreement, Ericsson would manage day-to-day services and provisioning and maintenance for Sprint’s CDMA, iDEN and wireline networks.
