EMC, a provider of information infrastructure offerings, has launched a number of new systems and capabilities that the company says helps businesses and organisations of all sizes to harness and exploit the information they generate each day.
The newly launched range of products include EMC VNXe storage system designed for SMBs and offered through EMC partners. The storage system can be configured in minutes by IT generalists to support virtual servers and hundreds of email users.
The comapny has also launched its VNX family of unified storage systems designed for virtual data centres. The systems converge EMC’s CLARiiON storage area network (SAN) systems and Celerra network attached storage (NAS) systems into a single unified storage arrays.
EMC has launched Symmetrix VMAX software technologies that are capable of supporting petabytes of information and up to 5 million virtual machines.
The VMAX also features FAST (fully automated storage tiering) software that automatically optimises the array based on data usage; new server virtualisation, security and federation capabilities; and new operating software that increases system performance with no hardware upgrade required.
In addition, the company launched Data Domain Global Deduplication Array (GDA) that incorporates two of the new EMC Data Domain DD890 controllers, making the GDA deduplication storage system.
Data Domain GDA delivers throughput of up to 26.3 TB/hr (7,300 MB/s), and gives the new GDA an ingest rate that faster than its dual-controller competitor.
Logical capacity of up to 28.5 PB and new VTL over Fibre Channel support extends the application of the GDA to a broader set of large enterprise environments.
Data Domain DD890 and DD860 Systems offers throughput of up to 14.7 and 9.8 TB/hr respectively. The new systems are the single controller deduplication storage systems available in their respective classes. Logical capacity for the DD890 is up to 14.2 PB, and up to 7.1 PB for the DD860.
Data Domain systems now natively support and can protect IBM Power systems using the IBM i operating environment as yet another shared work load across the majority of the product line, according to the company.
Finally, EMC also announced the EMC Data Domain Archiver, which the company says is the industry’s first long term retention system for backup and archive.
