Mobile network operator EE is building partnerships to deliver a mobile video distribution network for the UK.

The company said: "We are bringing together the entire end-to-end mobile video industry in the UK."

Matt Stagg, principal analyst at EE, said: "We are effectively building a video distribution network."

EE founded a Mobile Video Alliance (MVA) in May 2014 to share knowledge and drive forward mobile TV in the UK.

EE has partnered with colo Equinix to form the MVA and also uses Equinix’s data centre space in Slough to ensure videos can be streamed at fast rates from YouTube, NetFlix and other providers onto the customers’ handsets.

The MVA also brings together mobile operators, app developers, digital media content owners and OTT service providers.

The firm said that via Equinix it can connect to its main content delivery networks providers including YouTube, Google and Netflix.

Stagg said: "EE has to get to all the content delivery networks. We need to get to the London Internet Exchange (LINX) to be able to get to direct peering and direct fiber connectivity with all of the major content providers."

The enterprise connects to LINX to gain connectivity to other members of the exchange.

EE has three different forms of connectivity including internet transit, public interconnects and critical partners.
