NTT DOCOMO announced that it will launch on December 6 an i-mode version of its "docomo market" mobile portal to provide its customers using i-mode-enabled handsets with access to a range of mobile apps, music and electronic books.

The company first launched the docomo market portal in April to help smartphone customers discover apps, music and e-books.

The mobile operator said new i-mode docomo market initially will offer access to about 1,200 apps, including those developed by all categories of content providers, including individuals.

It will be accessible directly via most i-mode handsets or via PCs at http://appli.docomomarket.ne.jp/.

Music sales at i-mode docomo market will be co-managed with RecoChoku, a mobile music retailer in Japan.

At startup, the catalogue will comprise about one million songs and music videos covering a range of genres.

The book catalogue will launch with a number of e-book titles, including manga, novels and how-to books.
