Dilithium has released its DCA Video Optimizer, a network traffic optimizer application for live video and video-on-demand streaming utilizing the Dilithium Content Adapter.

According to the company, Dilithium Content Adapter (DCA) Video Optimizer is a product that can adapt video content for live and video-on-demand delivery to the widest range of devices, including PCs, set-top boxes, and mobile handsets.

The DCA Video Optimizer infrastructure system can be deployed by operators and service providers enabling traffic shaping of video streaming or progressive download based on network congestion, time of day, and differentiated services.

Dilithium claims that the DCA Video Optimizer provides a solution that can reduce the bandwidth required to deliver video to devices. The DCA patented on-the-fly transcoding and transrating capabilities reportedly allow it to exploit and adjust to handset capabilities. Bandwidth reduction is achieved without compromising perceived video quality. This results in a better browsing experience over broadband and mobile/wireless networks, the company said.

Earlier in January, Dilithium has announced the availability of live video and Video on Demand (VoD) streaming support for Blackberry handsets utilizing the Dilithium Content Adapter.
