Deutsche Telekom is expanding its web and server hosting portfolio with the launch of a new Universal Server, for small and mid-sized enterprises and private users.
The company claims that the new universal server offers the same functionality and speed, security and reliability for internet presence, databases and mail servers as an inhouse server.
The Universal Server hardware is located at the Deutsche Telekom’s data centre and offers all the functions of a server with Linux-based SuSE 11.1 operating system and a fixed memory size (RAM).
Deutsche Telekom said that the Universal Server enables enterprises to grant their business partners access to shared files. It also allows users to install their own e-mail server or launch a web server to set up an internet presence.
According to Deutsche Telekom, the hard disk space for data is provided with a RAID 5 network, which involves accessing and storing data across a minimum of four hard disks. The virtual server administration is handled through the graphical user interface Plesk 9.2, simplifying enterprises’ management of memory space, e-mail accounts and domains, individual server settings and automation of individual tasks such as backups.
Universal Server comes in service packages with varying hard disk capacities. The Universal Server Starter comes for EUR17.95 per month, Universal Server Basic and Universal Server Professional cost EUR35.95 and EUR53.95 per month, respectively.
