Dell and Oracle have expanded their global alliance to offer customers combined applications leveraging strengths of both companies, Dell’s hardware and Oracle’s software.
As part of the agreement, both firms named the other as their preferred partner and plan to streamline customer-support offerings to deliver a single point of contact from Dell.
Dell enterprise solutions president, Marius Haas, said that the agreement combines Oracle’s position in the database and business applications markets with Dell’s management in industry-standard servers, datacentre storage and networking.
"Dell is growing fast in the datacentre and gaining market share across the world in our three core businesses," Haas said.
"In part, this success is due to the fact we are focused on building and optimising Dell infrastructure to help customers run their core mission-critical workloads."
Both firms will jointly develop a new x86 infrastructure offering that allow organisations to implement and manage applications faster with better performance, flexibility and value at every scale.
Oracle president Mark Hurd said this partnership with Dell is an extension of Oracle’s engineered systems strategy, which will simplify IT and reduce integration costs by delivering hardware and software together.
"We believe that by working together, Dell will gain significant market share by delivering to its customers an integrated, optimised solution designed to deploy business critical applications," Hurd said.
Further, the joint offerings would include Oracle Linux, Oracle VM, Oracle Enterprise Manager, as in addition to Oracle’s database, middleware and applications.
