The service works by using a security application on customers’ mobile phones to create a one time passcode, which is then entered into users existing VPN clients on their laptops in place of their existing password.

The launch is as a result of a recent deal between Mobile Managed Services, the mobile solution division of Data Select, and Monitise Group, the mobile money experts.

According to Data Select, Accode is based on the same secure technology used in Monitise’s mobile banking service, Monilink, offering SMEs and enterprises the same level of security that has been adopted by the UK’s banks. The service is also fully managed by Mobile Managed Services, which requires no significant in-house IT resources are required to roll it out.

Alastair Lukies, chief executive of Monitise Group, said: Mobile data technology has delivered massive business advantages over the past few years, allowing workers, suppliers and consultants to access central resources no matter where they are. However, as the usage of such systems has increased, the threats have increased alongside it. With the mobile handset absolutely central to the working lives of most people today, the addition of tools that help protect companies’ information makes perfect sense.
