Cisco’s data centre technologies – Unified Computing System and Nexus switches has been selected by Travelport, a provider of transaction processing for the travel industry.

The data centre technologies have been selected by Travelport to increase business agility, scalability and efficiency for its primary data centre.

The data centre technologies will also increase data centre virtualisation, decrease time to add and provide servers and reduce the cost for network switches, cabling, servers, and power/cooling.

The data centre technology enables faster server and application deployment; reduces operational cost; provides data centre switch virtualisation to reduce costs; and increases savings through server virtualisation.

Travelport supports transaction services for approximately 160 countries, for over 60,000 travel agencies including online travel services, Cisco said.

Travelport network infrastructure and security director Gregory Sheperd said they are now able to free their teams from the daily management grind to work on the challenges that they know are coming their way.

"We will continue to see benefits in network, server, and opex savings year after year, which further enhances IT’s efficiency and responsiveness," Sheperd said.
