Cisco has expanded ASR Series platforms with the launch of the ASR 5000, which it claims to offer mobile operators a platform designed to accommodate the growth of mobile internet traffic and mobile multimedia applications.
The company said that the ASR 5000, result of the Starent acquisition, gives Cisco end-to-end IP next-generation network (IP NGN) architecture. The Cisco mobile internet network architecture increases network and customer intelligence and allows service providers to utilise the company’s networking across any access including 2G/3G/4G mobile network.
According to Cisco, the ASR 5000 is built for the mobile network and is the centerpiece of the Cisco mobile internet network architecture. It is managed by the newly formed Cisco Mobile Internet Technology Group. The IP mobile multimedia architecture consists a portfolio of products including the ASR 5000, ASR 1000, ASR 9000, 7600, MWR, CRS-1, unified computing system and nexus series.
In addition, the company also introduced a new mobility unified reporting system for the Cisco ASR 5000 that provides mobile operators with a set of reporting and management tools that help them optimise network performance, offer customised services and enhance the mobile consumer experience.
Ashraf Dahod, senior vice president and general manager of mobile internet technology group at Cisco, said: “As the demands from mobile users grow and their expectations increase, the need for intelligent traffic management, scale, performance and accurate reporting increases for service providers.
