Cisco Systems has agreed to buy the energy software start-up JouleX for $107m, with the deal expected to be completed in fourth quarter of 2013.
JouleX’ energy-management products assists enterprise networks and data centre infrastructures in monitoring power usage during rise in data traffic by mobile devices connected to a network.
The integration of JouleX’s energy management application with Cisco EnergyWise is expected to offer customers with simple way to measure, examine and manage energy usage for network and IT systems across the enterprise, without using device-side agents, hardware metres or network configurations.
Cisco Industry Solutions senior vice president Faiyaz Shahpurwala said JouleX’s technology will strengthen Cisco Services’ Smart Offerings and complements our evolving services strategy.
"It extends our ‘Internet of Things’ capabilities and is a good alignment to Cisco EnergyWise," Shahpurwala said.
"With network-enabled devices increasing exponentially, our partners and customers are asking for this solution today to operationalise their energy management capabilities in the network and reduce cost.
"JouleX’s cloud-enabled, agent-less architecture will allow our partners and customers to quickly deploy this solution at scale in addressing their IT energy management needs."
