Cisco Systems CEO John Chambers has dismissed speculation of its acquisition of data storage products manufacturer EMC, saying that his company is ‘not interested in acquiring EMC’.
Speaking at the ‘Viewpoints’ breakfast hosted by The Wall Street Journal, he further said that such a deal would have occurred ‘a year or two ago’.
Recently, an analyst from Macquarie Research said that EMC planned to join Cisco, and the networking firm was also keen on EMC’s 80% venture in VMware.
EMC has been mulling options including possible merger proposals with rivals Dell and HP, in the midst of pressure from activist investor and the expected exit of its long-time CEO.
The data storage products maker also held off-and-on merger discussions with HP for nearly a year and talks concluded recently.
The latest merger discussions were disclosed few weeks ago over financial terms on top of fears that stakeholders of EMC and HP would reject the deal.
Further, reports also noted that the data storage maker is also exploring options including a possible sale.
Cisco Systems and Oracle were said to be among other partners to buy part or all of EMC together with Dell and HP.
