It’s been slow in filtering across, but Cincom in the US has instructed staff to take a total of four weeks unpaid leave. The move, designed to reduce costs without laying off staff, is a response to the falling revenues and rising expenses which dogged the North American arm throughout its last financial year. The company has also sacked its North American vice-president. The resulting gap is being filled by Cincom president Tom Nies, while the UK’s Jeff Stokoe has been given worldwide responsiblity for Supra and database product development. Meanwhile, Cincom UK has won an initial UKP470,000 order from British Telecom for Sys/Master, the automated operations component within its Net/Master network management family. The software will automate IBM mainframebased lights out operations at Telecom data centres. The company is expected to place a second similarly priced order, within the next 18 months. And a big financial insititution in the City, believed to be Prudential Corp Plc, has a placed a big order for Supra.
