ChinaTel Group has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with ZTE for strategic partnership to advance both parties’ interests in delivering new telecommunications offerings for individual, enterprise and government consumers.

Under the MoU, ZTE will be the preferred and primary provider of customised equipment, software, consumer products, operational services and financing for high speed wireless broadband telecommunications networks ChinaTel is deploying in the PRC, Peru, and other markets.

Both companies agreed to work together to analyse consumer demand for new products and offerings, develop business plans to determine financial viability, execute design concepts, and roll out completed products, including manufacturing, marketing and sales.

As per the terms of the agreement, ZTE shall treat China Tel as its preferred customer in the supply of equipment, consumer products, operational services, offerings and financing.

ZTE will also offer China Tel a vendor financing proposal for each project identified and use its efforts to facilitate China Tel’s applications for debt financing by banks with which ZTE has relationships.

ZTE CEO Lirong Shi said that the company wishes to expand its influence in markets in which ChinaTel is currently deploying or investigating opportunities, as well as the People’s Republic of China, where its local presence offers advantages.
