Telecom company China United Network Communications Group (Unicom) has awarded a contract to Chinese phone-network equipment maker ZTE to upgrade networks in seven cities in China and deliver high-speed mobile access.
According to Bloomberg, ZTE will provide the HSPA+ network upgrade in seven cities, including Changchun, Ningbo and Wuhan.
The company has not disclosed the names of the other four cities. ZTE is likely toupgrade the network with the high-speed packet access or HSPA+ technology.
Last month, China Unicom had said that it would improve networks in 56 cities this year which would increase the download speed by about 46% and help people access videos, games or music faster.
China Unicom was incorporated in Hong Kong in February 2000 and is a provider of fixed-line voice, broadband and other Internet-related services.
Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.
