According to Nortel, BT iComms will open opportunities for new service revenue by providing carrier-grade hosted voice and multimedia services to businesses throughout Spain.

The new carrier hosted business from Nortel is also expected to enable BT Spain to deliver Centrex IP and SIP multimedia services to corporate customers and small to medium-sized businesses.

Nortel’s VoIP infrastructure products and services deliver, carrier-grade telephony, data and multimedia services over multi-service packet networks. The customized VoIP system for BT Spain is based on the Nortel  communication Server (CS) 2000, the IP Multimedia softswitch that supports a wide range of voice and multimedia business features with VoIP protocols. Nortel enables BT Spain to transition to an IP network required for hosting unified communications.

This also includes customer premise equipment (CPE) for end users, including Nortel SIP phones and SIP PC Clients, and provides for future support of fixed mobile convergence  and unified communication services.

Jacinto Cavestany, country manager of BT Spain, said: Using the latest Nortel IP Powered Business services deployment, based on SIP protocols, BT Spain will be able to offer simple and more affordable services to businesses in Spain. BT iComms integrates voice applications with messaging so that user productivity can be increased by as much as 15%. In a company with 200 employees, this can mean a performance improvement valued at as much as one million Euros in the first year of operation.
