BT has introduced a new cloud service which is designed to enable collaboration within the life sciences industry for increased R&D productivity.
BT for Life Sciences R&D is being developed to become a secure and segregated platform that allows scientists to carry out computer model-based testing of new drugs, and collaborate on a global basis using social media tools.
The new ecosystem will help researchers to upload documents to the platform, share results and communicate with each other via voice, video or instant messaging to analyse results in an environment that segments data.
It also uses qualified hardware components and workflows specific to the pharmaceutical industry.
BT Assure portfolio of security services will support the new cloud service, which will allow BT to assist customers in designing data encryption, anonymisation , risk management and resilience to meet the regulatory requirements for the cloud environment.
The embedded cloud orchestration tools will help simplify IT management and resourcing requirements, said the company.
BT has partnered with Accelrys, a scientific enterprise R&D software and services company, to provide the latter organisation’s scientific applications through the cloud service. Accelrys’s customers can now use the cloud, which will initially be based on BT’s On Demand Compute service.
BT for Life Sciences R&D leverages other capabilities of the BT portfolio and BT Advise’s professional services capabilities in terms of application selection and migration to Cloud, orchestration support, Bioteam consulting services and design of Cloud environment elements.
