A fire at BT’s Belfast data centre at the Telephone House building this week disrupted broadband services for many customers in Northern Ireland, including the PSNI.
The facility, which services several major government and state bodies including the Department of Finance and the Department of Justice, had its power supply disrupted by the blaze.
The data centre space was left unpowered and lost connectivity, but BT confirmed the fire caused no physical damage.
The telco company said staff were evacuated at 6:15am on Wednesday, after fire alarms sounded at 6am in a comms room on the fourth floor of the hub.
The event closed down nearby streets as fire crews attended the scene with six fire engines and an aerial appliance.
In a statement BT said: "Yesterday’s fire in our Telephone House building in Belfast disrupted the electricity supply to the building affecting a number of customers."
