Broadcom, a provider of semiconductors for wired and wireless communications, has introduced two new cable set-top box system-on-a-chip system for digital cable services in China.
According to the company, these cable set-top box (STB) system feature an integrated high performance DVB-C cable tuner developed in 65nm technology, and with integrated advanced security and sophisticated power management, enable manufacturers to develop next-generation and power efficient STBs
The BCM7003, includes a 10/100 Fast Ethernet media access controller that enables two-way interactive services such as video-on-demand, digital video recorder functionality and internet browsing.
The company also announced the Broadcom BCM7003 interactive two-way standard definition cable system and the Broadcom BCM7004 SD basic cable system. Both single-chip systems are targeted for the digital cable TV market in China, as well as supporting worldwide cable standards for the world’s set-top box markets including India, Europe, Latin America, South America and Asia.
The company said that both the BCM7003 and BCM7004 include advanced security capabilities and feature a toolkit of security components to meet a wide range of smart card-based and card-less conditional access system requirements. The chip systems are permanently factory-programmed with a unique identification and security configuration, where they can be managed and utilized as part of advanced security policies.
