IP-based telecom and managed services provider Birch Communications has signed a definitive agreement to buy the operating assets of security and surveillance systems, devices supplier AstroTel.

The assets to be acquired include the IP-based network spanning the Tampa, St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Sarasota and Bradenton markets on Florida’s west coast.

With the acquisition, Birch is expected to increase customer density and expand the reach of its state-of-the-art private IP-Network through both "tuck-in" acquisitions and organic growth.

Birch president and CEO Vincent Oddo said Birch and AstroTel are committed to ensuring a smooth transition for all parties.

"Birch has seamlessly transitioned thousands of Customers, Dealers and Wholesale Partners as a part of the 13 acquisitions it has previously completed since 2006 – no one in the industry has more experience completing this process and everyone will benefit from our proven ability to provide world-class service and back it up with world-class support," said Oddo.

Birch chief operating officer Chris Aversano said Birch is looking forward to welcoming the former AstroTel customers, dealers and wholesale partners into the Birch family.

"Over the last fifteen years Birch has earned a strong reputation for providing exceptional customer service. In addition, they will all benefit from a wider selection of voice, broadband and managed IT products and services," said Aversano.
