AT&T has unveiled its planned Arizona network expansion for this year, anticipating to add nearly 90 new cell sites throughout the state, and upgrading more than 130 cell sites to 3G.
According to the company, the network opens the door to advanced mobile services, devices and audio and video content, such as AT&T Video ShareSM, a first-of-its-kind technology that allows users to share live video during a wireless call.
From 2006 to 2008, the company’s total capital investment in Arizona was more than $375m. This includes 205 new cell sites and more than 521 site upgrades to 3G service.
Jerry Fuentes, president of AT&T Arizona-New Mexico, said: We continue to make significant investments to deliver dependable high speed wireless access in more places across Arizona for consumers and business customers who need to stay connected to work, family and friends.
The company said that its 2009 expansion effort builds upon the 17 new cell sites and 106 site upgrades to 3G that the company added in 2008 to expand network coverage in Phoenix, Sierra Vista, Tucson and Yuma, and deploy 3G network launch in Flagstaff.
AT&T 3G network is now available in nearly 350 US major metropolitan areas, including Arizona. The company has also announced the extension of its 3G wireless broadband network to Amarillo.
