Aricent has entered into a collaboration with Juni Global to provide a WiMAX infrastructure systems for in-campus (enterprise / residential) and private networks. Juni’s Femto / Pico Base Stations are suitable for operators looking to expand high bandwidth mobile internet services within campuses and small private networks.

Aricent said that the combination of its WiMAX Integrated Gateway (WING) software framework and Juni’s suite of Femto / Pico Base Stations offer the suitable systems for those who intend to deploy in-campus and private networks.

According to Aricent, the WING powered Juni system supports interoperability with the WiMAX Forum Network Working Group (NWG) defined R6 interface, ensuring a reference interface to equipment within the WiMAX network.

The company claims, the joint effort to create significant technology synergies, offering system integrators and in-campus service providers a high-performance, end-to-end WiMAX network, accelerating time to market and reducing cost.

Aricent offers a WiMAX network-in-a-box software system, WiMAX Integrated Gateway, designed for equipment vendors looking to provide WiMAX-based systems using pre-packaged and pre-optimised software. It consists of an ASN-Gateway integrated with an AAA server and HA server on the same physical node.

Juni provides a range of Femto-and-Pico-cells that offer service providers a line of WiMAX systems. It has developed a Smart in-building System, the JFW-900, for in-building and campus networks. The JFW-900 utilises the Aricent WING in its local MAX-LAN controller and can support up to 200 access points.

Rakesh Vij, assistant vice president of Aricent, said: “We continue to see significant traction within the in-campus market using WiMAX technology, and are confident that this joint initiative provides genuine benefits to WiMAX System Integrators and Network Operators.”
