Periscope is now available on Android.
The Twitter live-streaming app is now available from the Google Play store for Android owners using Version 4.4 and above. It has been available on iOS since March.
Users will receive access to Periscope’s usual features, including starting public or private broadcasts, choosing to allow comments from only those you follow and interacting with broadcasters by chatting or sending hearts.
However, Android also adds a Material-inspired design, granular control over additional Push Notification settings and a ‘Resume notification’ so that you can keep watching where you left off. In addition, replays are saved without broadcasters having to upload a file.
Periscope was acquired by Twitter in January 2015, cutting off access to its social graph to Periscope’s main rival in the streaming space is Meerkat, which directly links with Twitter accounts.
"When we started Periscope, we wanted to build the closest thing to teleportation? — ?by providing users with the best way to start or watch a live video broadcast," wrote Sara Heider, Android Engineer at Periscope.
"As a small startup, our initial launch was limited to just iOS, but we’ve been working really hard to craft an experience that feels special on Android, yet still unmistakably Periscope."
