Amazon has launched a marketplace for customers looking to pay people to complete odd jobs around the house.

Initially operating in major US cities, Amazon Home Services will allow people to buy or sell services from house cleaning to TV installation, backed by a guarantee from the ecommerce site.

Handymen in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle will be chosen specifically by Amazon to offer their services online, with the retailer acting as a middleman between customer and business.

The service will also ensure that only verified customers can submit reviews to a listing, countering a major complaint about user reviews that has plagued many ecommerce sites.

Amazon will also encourage competition between sellers and price-match for the same services and seller on other sites, as well as ensure that a customer does not pay until the job has been completed.

At present the company has not said if and when it plans to expand the service to the UK.
