Internet giant Amazon is in plans to build a new data centre campus in Dublin, with the planned build aimed to address the global surge in demand for cloud services.
The yet-to-be-built data centre in Mulhuddart, is expected to total 20,739 sq meters and is likely to cost up to €200m.
Reports revealed that the company recently filed a request with Fingal County Council to build the new data centre, bringing its total data centres around Dublin to 10.
This follows on from Amazon’s recent move to build its fourth data centre in Tallaght, South Dublin.
Amazon already has data centres located near the location of the new site in Mulhuddart and is currently building a big data centre near Dublin Airport.
The company is said to have chosen to build its latest data centre in Mulhuddart as it is close to its other facilities in the area.

According to Independent.ie, Amazon is likely to build an additional seven data centres at the chosen location owned by IDA, with the site expected to become a data storage facility campus. This could include an estimated spend of €700m.
With the increase in the demand of its Web Services, Amazon not only uses its data centres for its own operations but also for its Amazon Web Services business which has added to the expansion of its data centre portfolio throughout 2016.
Last year the company revealed plans to rent an office block in Dublin, where it plans to create around 500 new jobs.
Amazon’s new data centre campus makes Dublin one of the most concentrated data centre locations in Europe, with up to 30 data centres from other businesses such as Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Equinix and more located around the capital.
The construction of the latest data centre, named ‘Project G’, is to begin this year and is expected to take up to 18 months to complete.
