Verizon Wireless has awarded a four-year contract to Alcatel-Lucent, under which the Alcatel will support Verizon’s ongoing 3G network expansion and 4G/LTE network build out.
Under the agreement expected to be worth US$4bn, Alcatel-Lucent will provide infrastructure offerings spanning its entire portfolio, including end-to-end CDMA and LTE radio network offering, IP, optical and microwave backhaul and transport, and complete portfolio of professional and network integration services.
Alcatel-Lucent president Robert Vrij said Verizon Wireless and Alcatel-Lucent have worked together in the past during the introduction of CDMA, and they are now enabling Verizon to evolve to the next generation that is 4G/LTE.
The Alcatel-Lucent High Leverage Network (HLN) architecture addresses the dual challenges of simultaneously scaling and managing network capacity to meet increasing bandwidth demand while delivering differentiated, revenue generating services.
Headquartered in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, Verizon Wireless is a joint venture of Verizon Communications and Vodafone.
