3, a Hutchison Whampoa company, will deploy Smart Repeater from Nextivity, a developer of in-building coverage technology, as a fundamental element of Ireland’s National Broadband Scheme.

3 was recently appointed as the broadband provider for Ireland’s National Broadband Scheme by the Ministry of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources. The scheme is a government-backed initiative which aims to see high-speed broadband services available in all areas of Ireland by 2010.

The Nextivity Smart Repeater will work in harmony with 3’s 3G wireless network to maximise the data rates and voice quality experienced by users while indoors. With advanced filtering, equalization and echo cancellation techniques, Nextivity’s Smart Repeater is claimed to deliver superior in-building data rates and pervasive 3G connectivity.

Werner Sievers, CEO of Nextivity, said: We are very pleased to see our indoor coverage solution contribute to the noble mission of delivering high speed broadband services to every Irish community. Our Smart Repeater technology is designed to overcome the most demanding indoor coverage challenges and increase the effective RF capacity of each base station.
