Once the APIs are integrated with the ERP systems, this will enable the usage of a system of integrated apps to manage and automate services.

With this in mind, Daimler and telematics service provider WirelessCar have signed a strategic IoT partnership to connect the car to the business.

The automotive corporation – which includes brands like Mercedes-Benz, Smart, and Mitsubishi Fuso – said it will use WirelessCar’s- a Volvo Group company – platform to extend services offerings with fleet management services.

The joint venture is due to start in 2016 with services including location and vehicle follow up, as well as extensive reporting through portals and mobile apps, increasing vehicle uptime and utilisation.

Daimler said it will start giving customers extended services throughout a vehicle’s life cycle, and speed up the release of new services.

Christoph Hartung, director for connected cars at Daimler AG, said: "We will be able to offer complete solutions for increased vehicle uptime and utilisation while simplifying the everyday routines for the fleet manager."

Speaking to CBR, Olivier Pauzet, VP of marketing strategy at wireless equipment manufacturer Sierra Wireless, said: "Partnerships between wireless solution providers and car manufacturers are enabling a new level of value-added connected services for customers.

"They are a vital source to allow original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to make the most of evolving wireless technology and build in flexibility to adapt their solutions to future generations of technology and to services that may grow and change over time."
