Cray Research Inc’s Cray Japan unit has announced a discount schedule for its supercomputers for Japanese universities and research laboratories: it has not up to now got involved in discounting to educational institutions as the Japanese manufacturers do, but has now adopted a more flexible system of joint development with universities under which discounts on the price of the hardware can be considered; meantime Grumman Data Systems is reportedly looking for a Japanese partner to help develop its supercomputer systems integration business in Japan (CI No 1,405).
