Corbis Corp, the electronic image company owned by Bill Gates, will use German print systems manufacturer Heidelberg as the supplier for its image scanning hardware and software on a worldwide basis. Heidelberg, the world’s largest print systems manufacturer, owns the LinoColor techniques for calibration of color and luminance between images displayed on a video monitor and hardcopy printed images, though its acquisition of Rudolf Hell Gmbh. This is now used by both Apple Computer Inc and Microsoft Corp for managing color at the operating system level. Seattle, Washington-based Corbis owns the rights to 25 million images, 1.3 million of them on-line.
