Converged systems revenue surpasses $2.9bn

IDC said the market generated 1,693 petabytes of new storage capacity shipments during Q2.

The global converged systems revenue increased 12.1% year over year in Q2, surpassing $2.9bn in value, according to International Data Corporation (IDC).

IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Converged Systems Tracker revealed that there were 1,693 petabytes of new storage capacity shipments during the quarter, an increase 31.8% from the year ago period.

IDC senior research analyst for computing platforms Kevin Permenter said: “More and more, we are seeing end users looking beyond the hardware specs and performance metrics; end users in this market are looking for vendors that are adept at building and maintaining deep customer relationships.

“Converged system vendors that are able to build these deep relationships with their customers are positioned for growth.”

The research firm differentiated between four product categories that include integrated systems, certified reference systems, integrated platforms, and hyperconverged Systems.

The combined integrated infrastructure and certified reference systems markets revenue increased 4.7% year-over-year to $1.6bn in Q2.

EMC stood at the top place in the combined certified reference systems and integrated infrastructure categories with $699.58m in revenue, or 43% market share.

Cisco and NetApp were at the second place with $429.54m in revenue, followed by HPE with $290.72m in revenue.

Integrated platform revenue dropped 3.5% year over year to $864.09m, amounting to 29.1% of the total market revenue.

Oracle was the largest supplier of integrated platforms in Q2, with $481.97m in revenue and 55.8% market share.

HPE and IBM stood at second and third places with $84.65m and $44.39m revenues, respectively.

Hyperconverged sales increased 137.5% year over year in Q2, generating $480.62m in revenue.
