Computer Power Group Pty Ltd – bidding its own software on IBM hardware – shut out Fujitsu Ltd with Computer Sciences Corp software for the giant $525m contract for the Australian Taxation Office computer project. Computer Power lobbied the Commonwealth Department of Administrative Services hard to win the contract, in which support of local industry and demands for an open market clashed (CI No 1,227).
