Compaq Computer Corp is expected to sign a reseller agreement with Novera Inc today (Monday) in what is being interpreted as its first serious move into Java. Newsbytes says that Compaq will take Novera’s jBusiness Java application server software as the basis for a series of Java-related software and services it plans to roll out over the coming year. Now that it has an incompatible set of hardware products through its acquisition of Digital Equipment Corp, Compaq has more need for a set of portable software services to tie the Intel and Alpha-based lines together. The jBusiness product was launched by Burlington, Massachusetts-based Novera at the JavaOne event earlier this year (CI No 3,374).
