Russia based Internet services and Web search company Yandex has released its own browser to complete with Google and extend its dominance in domestic market.
Yandex said, the new browser uses the WebKit engine Google’s Chromium open code and Opera’s Turbo technology.
The company has already signed a deal with Norwegian mobile internet browser maker Opera to license its Turbo technology which is expected to boost the browser’s page loading capacity even with a slow connection.
Yandex also claimed that that the new browser will have basic open-source components, plug-ins to boost its browsing power as well as use latest versions of Adobe FlashTM and a PDF reader.
Yandex browser features a merged search and address bar, which can be used both to surf and to search the internet.
The new browser supports Windows and Mac OS and equipped with machine-learned automated translation technology to allow people to access information in different language.
Yandex claimed that the browser will use cloud-based safe browsing technology, together with Kaspersky Lab’s security application to warn users about potentially malicious websites.
Yandex CEO Arkady Volozh said that cloud-based browsing is a next-generation answer to the challenges of the modern internet.
"To make the internet experience faster, easier and safer for everyone, we have built a cloud-based browser that integrates the best of our products and services and is open to other web developers," Arkady Volozh said.
Kaspersky Lab’s account manager for technology alliances Konstantin Matyukhin said Yandex integrated Kaspersky SafeStream II technology which includes a set of antivirus signatures designed to protect against the most dangerous and widespread malware.
"These AV signatures are used to scan every file which is downloaded through the browser. Thus it creates an additional layer of protection for a PC," Matyukhin said.
