Workday, a provider of enterprise cloud applications for human resources and finance, has announced the appointment of Chano Fernandez as EMEA president.

He will be reporting directly to Mike Stankey, president and chief operating officer, and will have a regional responsibility for leading the EMEA business including sales, operations and services.

A spokesperson for Workday told CBR that Fernandez will start by focusing on getting to know the company’s customers, team and colleagues in Europe, finding out their needs and goals.

They also said that Fernandez believes that 2014 will be a good year for the Workday cloud. "Companies in Europe continue to move HR to the Workday cloud, and he believes finance is the next big opportunity. Chano is convinced that many CFOs are just starting to consider whether they should be moving to the cloud, and although there may still be work to do, he sees Workday as very well positioned and ahead of the competition, but with a need to accelerate."

Fernandez has more than two decades of sales and operational leadership, and for seven years prior to joining Workday, Fernandez served as senior vice president and head of innovation sales at SAP EMEA. Before that, he was vice president of EMEA sales at Infor, responsible for global and large accounts.

Chano Fernandez, president, EMEA, Workday commented on his new role: "Workday has made great progress in Europe, and as more companies make the shift to bring HR and finance to the cloud, we are in an incredible position to help them make that change. I believe Workday’s commitment to customer satisfaction, employee-focussed culture, and fast pace of innovation are significant differentiators in Europe, and I am thrilled to join the team and help accelerate our growth in this market."
