Enterprise-class internet service provider Sakura Internet has selected ultra-high throughput relational database systemsVoltDB as the database foundation for the company’s real-time Internet traffic monitoring and analysis platform, which detects and mitigates large-scale distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks.
Sakura provides website and email hosting, virtual private networks, elastic cloud services (IAAS) and complete data centre hosting offerings and the Sakura’s data centres offer a comprehensive suite of location-based hardware, software and communications services, leveraging Sakura’s advanced technology platform and redundant infrastructure.
To provide end user and business customers with safe, reliable internet services, Sakura needs a real-time database capable of ingesting massive IP traffic flow data streams from its backbone communications infrastructure.
Sakura Internet Systems Engineer Tamihiro Yuzawa said VoltDB was Sakura’s choice from the beginning because it’s a super-fast datastore that supports SQL.
"Using VoltDB, we were able to implement a scalable monitoring application at a fraction of the cost of expensive commercial appliances. I think VoltDB can be used in many other real-time networking applications," said Yuzawa.
VoltDB CEO Scott Jarr said Sakura’s security infrastructure requires a datastore that can scale massively and on demand, without sacrificing data accuracy.
"VoltDB was designed specifically for innovators like Sakura by providing ultra-high transaction throughput in a compact, economical database solution. We’re pleased that Sakura has selected VoltDB, and look forward to delivering future innovations to support the Company’s network services applications," said Scott.
