VMware marked the launch of its ‘vision for the future of business mobility’ with the unveiling of a new product, VMware Identity Manager.

The product claims to offer the first Identity-as-a-Service (IDaaS) integrated with a enterprise mobility management and security solution. It provides secure, one-touch access from any device to web, mobile and Windows applications.

In addition, the tight integration between VMware Identity Manager and AirWatch Enterprise Mobility Management to provide an additional authentication factor from enrolled devices.

Another key feature is the HTML5 Application Portal which VMware claims provides a simple on-boarding experience to employees, automated app provisioning and more secure application access.

VMware Identity Manager is offered in the Cloud or as an on-premise solution. It is available now as part of the VMware Blue and Yellow Management Bundles for $150 (around £96) per year per end-user. It will also be used by solutions including VMware vCloud Air and VMware vRealize Air.

Other announcements made by VMware included a further commitment to Apple and the iOS platform with the development of application configuration templates and solutions for vertical markets, as well as support for the AT&T Work Platform.

In addition, VMware announced that 15 new partners have committed to App Configuration for Enterprise, the open standard approach for managing and securing apps deployed through enterprise mobility management solutions. New partners such as Dropbox, DocuSign and Kony join Box, Cisco and Salesforce as members.

These announcements came as part of VMware’s new strategy, which aims to deliver a more user and application-centric experience in the enterprise.
