1) Better API management solutions
CA Technologies used CA World in Las Vegas to release an expanded API management solution portfolio that claims to ‘deliver efficiency and business opportunity’ in the application economy.
The main takeaway here is that CA’s API Developer Portal is now available as a SaaS offering.
Rahim Bhatia, SVP for API management at CA Technologies, said: "CA’s solutions protect and control user access to the application at the front end, while controlling application access to the API for a more secure experience."
2) Samsung KNOX partnership strengthens
CA Technologies has built upon its already existing relationship with Samsung’s KNOX mobile security platform. CA and KNOX give business customers an end-to-end mobile app security solution that uses single sign-on, while controlling app access to the API.
"Over the next five years, we expect up to 800 million mobile devices in use across the enterprise. Protecting and enabling app use on those devices is critical to business success. Samsung KNOX, integrated with CA’s API management and security technology, gives our customers extended breadth of security, from the device to the API, while maintaining user convenience."
3) Say hello to CA’s Management Cloud
The firm has introduced the Management Cloud – a portfolio of CA applications, delivered from the cloud, that can help customers in making the right portfolio decisions.
CA said: "The Management Cloud portfolio was developed in response to the growing size and complexity of enterprise IT investments. It delivers comprehensive management for IT services, assets and projects with rapid time-to-value, ease of implementation and a user experience that will drive enterprise-wide adoption."
4) DevOps solutions
DevOps, described my CEO Mike Gregoire as a religion, is a buzz word at the moment. Therefore, the fourth release from CA World this year is an updated portfolio of DevOps solutions and enhancements. The updates improve interoperability of service virtualisation with API management.
Melinda Ballou, program director, Application Life-Cycle Management at IDC, said: "APIs are becoming the primary customer interface for technology-driven products and services on mobile and other environments and a key channel for driving revenue and brand engagement. Yet organisations lag at being able to test and improve API quality. By integrating CA Service Virtualization and automated testing with API management capabilities, CA is helping to enable parallel development efforts and improve application quality."
5) Lifecycle management
Finally, the firm has introduced a platform called CA Application Lifecycle Conductor. This automates and manages application development from mobile to mainframe environments.
The manager lets users visualise and control the flow of their development processes through a common user interface.
Michael Madden, general manager, Mainframe at CA Technologies, said: "The mainframe is at the heart of billions of transactions and powers the backend of the application economy. It is an integral part of the DevOps processes being implemented across our customer base. With CA Application Lifecycle Conductor, we are helping accelerate the development of high-quality applications by providing oversight across every step of the complex, cross-platform application lifecycle."
